Everyday we look at our reflection in the mirror. It helps us ensure we don’t walk out the door looking like a fool – hair all wild, a bugger hanging out of our nose, a milk mustache, uneven eyeliner – you get my drift. We also take note of the things we like and dislike in the reflection. We can really analyze and pick apart what we see, right? However, we also see the things we like. Ladies, we get excited about a good hair day! Men, well, I don’t know what you get excited about when you look in the mirror. I’m not a guy. Maybe you get excited about a good hair day too? Or no overgrown nose or ear hair?
Well, as Christians, the Bible is our spiritual mirror. When we read it we should see our reflection in it. We should see the areas in our heart that need godly transformation. Maybe it’s our thoughts that need renewing. Maybe a certain fruit of the spirit that needs tending to. Or maybe we need to strengthen our faith.
Just like we check ourselves in the mirror every morning we need to be checking ourselves in the Bible too. First, looking to remind yourself who you are – who God says you are. Then, look to see and be reminded of how God has transformed you – “the work you’ve had done.” Lastly, make note of the areas of your heart that need a makeover and ask the Surgeon to help you transform those flaws.
If you truly love God you want to be who He created you to be and you will willingly check your reflection daily to see your transformation into His image.
